sbg Posted May 21, 2015 Report Posted May 21, 2015 Hi had a few questions on a spl box. Just for fun I want to build a box just for numbers. I know a Lot of testing goes in to finding a good box. But was thinking others could point me into a good starting point. Equipment. 1 hcca 12" d4 Orion txr3700.1 It's a 2001 ford,focus se My amp does 2400wrms at 2ohm 12.6v So sub will be getting full rms. should not have to bad of volt drop at 2ohm also. As of now I run 2 hcca 12s in a 2:1 4th order in my trunk and does ok. 146.db sealed and a 148.7 outlaw. Cars peak is 44hz. Should is start off with sub and port firing forward? And go with a mid 40hz tune? in a small box? Triticum Agricolam Posted May 21, 2015 Report Posted May 21, 2015 Not enough port area, IMHO. The higher you tune, the more port area you need. Since all your output around tuning comes out of that port, you don't want to restrict the flow at all. I'd use two 6" ports. Joe X Posted May 21, 2015 Report Posted May 21, 2015 If both drivers fit in a bandpass both will fit in a ported, larger box shorter port for a given tuning, I would probably go for a variable tuning psychoport, for sure you will need to tweak tuning , use Small's estimate to calc port area at the tuning range you intend to be at. Much of SPL boxes is vehicle dependant so continue your research.
