TriassicReef Posted May 25, 2015 Report Posted May 25, 2015 So this is the box i built a while back for my 05 grand marquis, i know its not too pleasing on the eyes so bear with me, I made a serious mistake when constructing the port so i never tried to make it look nice since i would have to rebuild(i know im missing tons of bracing lol). Im currently in the process of designing its successor and open to any ideas or suggestions. Im trying to make the biggest ported box possible to accommodate 3 15's and a tuning frequency around 25-30 hz. I hear everybody hittin highs so im trying to devestate with the lows lol any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Also any advice on constructing the box inside the trunk would be great since i found it to be a little diffiicult. Just incase your wondering im running a rockford 2500.1 270 amp mechman alt!
Triticum Agricolam Posted May 25, 2015 Report Posted May 25, 2015 You don't want to have your subs facing up in a trunk car. "Nothing prevents people from knowing the truth more than the belief they already know it.""Making bass is easy, making music is the hard part."Builds:
TriassicReef Posted May 25, 2015 Author Report Posted May 25, 2015 You don't want to have your subs facing up in a trunk car Can you explain why i shouldn't? i have them up because i couldn't think of another way to fiit them all in.
Joe X Posted May 25, 2015 Report Posted May 25, 2015 Rattling and loss of output due to flex, besides 3 L7 15s would need 12 cubes net at least to work ok, I would rethink the whole project.
firebirdude Posted May 25, 2015 Report Posted May 25, 2015 Yup. And it ain't enough space to port anyway. Need about 10 cubes net bare minimum (so without sub or port displacement). EDIT: Exactly.

I would consider using fiber glass to mold the whole trunk but i have never used fiberglass before and that seems quite complex for a first fiberglass project.
firebirdude Posted May 25, 2015 Report Posted May 25, 2015 There's no way that's 10 cubes net. Consider selling one sub.

firebirdude Posted May 25, 2015 Report Posted May 25, 2015 If you're dead set on doing this, pull the rear seats. Build the box proper. Then you'll even have room for the amp(s) to power them. And probably the second battery you'll surely need. Do sealed if you want. But I'd still avoid having them 2" from the trunk lid like that. And since you've had this design for awhile? How's she sound?

How's she sound? As in pull the seats out and build a wall?lol i don't think im capable of doing that one. how far away do you suggest? It sounds great in the mid high 30's and even hits the low 30's high 20's. but most of what im hearing is cabin gain since i have way to much air velocity in the port because i accidently made the opening of the port wider than the rest.
