Shenker Posted June 12, 2015 Report Share Posted June 12, 2015 Hey guys, so I just finished putting the hardware side of my new rig together, figured I would share and if anyone had any questions about the setup or products I used I could provide a real world review of it. I say "completed" because it is working, still going to SLI my graphics card with another, and do some case mods in the near future. Also considering a future dedicated liquid loop. Specs: -Gigabyte Z97X UD5 Black Edition -i5 4960k (bang for buck a better option for my uses vs. a 4790k) -Corsair H100i -ASUS Strix GTX970 -G.Skill Sniper 16gb @ 1866mhz -EVGA Supernova 750G2 PSU -Samsung 850 Pro 240gb SSD + 1TB 7200rpm + 500gb 7200rpm(being replaced by a 2TB drive) -Corsair AIR 540 Case (some mild case mods to come) Peripherals: all these are from my last setup and about 4-6 years old at this point, have never had an issue with any of them and wont replace until I do have an issue. Also yeah im a wired fanboy, I attend LAN events occasionally and wireless gets awful interference, so no wireless for me. -Logitech G35 -CM Storm Quickfire TK Mech. board w/ blue switches + Logitech G510 -Razer Deathadder 1st gen On to hardware porn... Yeah Rootxbeer I will eventually do a custom loop and add the GPU to it, right now that cooler is just a purchased sealed cooler from corsair. Also, SSD is around back, I dont have any pictures but i can put 5 back there in another drive rack, those are 3.5" HDDs on the bottom. Shenker Posted June 13, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 13, 2015 -going to be overclocking yes, probably going to be able to get a stable 4.2-4.4 clock out of the CPU with still very low temps, the board will OC really good, far beyond what I intend to run actually, and this cooler is pretty serious for being a sealed unit. -The 970 is great so far, super cool, super quiet. I haven't done anything crazy with it yet, but at single monitor 1080p resolutions it slays everything on ultra with no stuttering, and I haven't encountered the "ramsgate" memory issue. At 1080p and a single monitor I doubt anything is going to stutter for many years to come on that 970. thats the idea haha, although I do plan on upgrading to some more visual real-estate soon, something around 25"-27", 1440p, and 120hz or 144hz. probably something Asus, I really like their panels, but ill have to let the spending money re-accumulate for a while.
