all4spl Posted July 23, 2015 Author Report Posted July 23, 2015 Whatever it's called, its not connected anymore and i'm happier with the constant 13.8v over 12.4 i was seeing. Retired from SPL again.... 2016 IASCA Truck/Trunk 2 Champion 151.8db 2016 IASCA Truck/Trunk 2 World Record Holder
ToNasty Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 The swnsor is there for a reason. It does kinda suck for audio but it's better for the truck ***Super Sellers List***http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/25829-super-sellers-buyers
all4spl Posted July 23, 2015 Author Report Posted July 23, 2015 I didn't buy this truck to go OMG I'M GETTING 29MPG, no I am content with 15-18mpg that its been getting. And every person I have talked to with the same body style that has done this noticed no drop in MPG. all4spl Posted July 23, 2015 Author Report Posted July 23, 2015 The sensor is there to lower the output voltage of the alternator to increase MPGs, so GM could meet the government standards or whatever. By disconnecting it, I am in no way harming the truck, sure the factory alternator may wear quicker, but I really don't care about the factory alternator. ToNasty Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 I'm just saying man. Just watch out for stuff. Mine was a little weird but I now found out. Just like if you do the big 3. Put your new ground through that sensor or else you.will charge high ***Super Sellers List***http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/25829-super-sellers-buyers
all4spl Posted July 23, 2015 Author Report Posted July 23, 2015 By that same thought, anyone using an aftermarket alternator is harming their truck. I checked with a gm mechanic and he confirmed that sensor is just to tell the internal regulator to go up or down based on what the truck is programmed to do/or current demand. I do not plan on plugging that sensor back in if it's going to tell my new alternator to charge at 12.4v when I am driving. Sure it's better for MPG, but I really don't care about that, as well there are folks who have had this sensor disconnected for years without an issue. ToNasty Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 One more thing. You won't charge any higher than 13.6 with that sensor unhooked if I remember right. I'm not trying to clutter your thread up either. I've just been fighting with my silverado electrical and I finally.got it.down. just want to inform you is all I'm doing ***Super Sellers List***http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/25829-super-sellers-buyers
all4spl Posted July 23, 2015 Author Report Posted July 23, 2015 The sensor wont allow constant charging plugged in, and it wont go over 13.8v with the sensor unplugged correct but that is ONLY with the factory alternator. An aftermarket should not need the sensor nor be limited to 13.6. Retired from SPL again.... 2016 IASCA Truck/Trunk 2 Champion 151.8db 2016 IASCA Truck/Trunk 2 World Record Holder
