If you're happy with the wireless coverage you get from the locations of your (assuming they'll be) AP's, then I'm happy. Everything else looks great! Just pull extra lines where you think you'd need them the first time. PITA to pull a second time. Especially after furniture and what-not is put back in place. Why the hell does your ISP control your Wifi activity? If the routers you're installing are for AP, don't even jack with your ISP. Otherwise it'll be part of the first pic with the modem the router separate then into the port of the 2nd. And the routers are new. Right now its just the single one. Coverage blows upstairs in my room on the far left side. By doing the 2 new ones I'm hoping itd help. It'd burn a port on your patch panel, but you could go modem>patch panel>router>patch panel>switch> feeding the rest of your patch panel. And by going netgear with the rest I can just keep them all linked in and control them in one program. I'll just have a few short patch cables between everything. I highly recommend having a patch panel though. Much easier to manage with than putting 45s on all the cables and it looks really clean. I don't treat my projects and wouldn't treat this project any less than the guys treat their cars on this forum. Your sketch looks perfect. 16 ports is more than enough to accommodate your entire home. Only thing I can't stress enough is the patch panel. It's just the way I was trained and how I like to practice networking, but a patch panel will help out in more scenarios than one. This would be an idea setup for me. Simple, clean, compact. I got a call to run a line today... In SouthWest Louisiana, everything stays wet. We don't have basements, and in my particular town, there are a lot of older homes without attics. Where do the wires get ran? Kade Posted July 10, 2015 Report Share Posted July 10, 2015 You won't need any 110 phone jacks. Here's a tip, your standard telephone cable (rj11 and rj12) will plug into a Cat5e (rj45) jack. So, you can wire everything up the same exact way on the patch panel and at the wall plate on a Cat5e jack. Just depends what you plug into it. Dial tone or data. Backwards compatibility! I'd just get 4 more Cat5e jacks. You don't need the electrical precision cutters or the strippers. A cheap pair of throw-away scissors will work. What you want to do half-open your scissors and place the wire in it. Drag the scissors around the cable and score the insulation, don't cut through it. This will weaken the insulation enough for you to pull on the piece you want removed and it'll break at your scoring point. Exposing all your beautiful pairs. Don't forget to use your T-568B wiring on both sides. Doesn't matter how you wire it as long as it's the same on both sides. For the sake of cable testers and the possibility a tech might have to work on your network, learn and use T-568B. Other than that man.
