Most people will grab one, use it and sell it off. If not, seriously consider checking out the tool map, many members have no issue helping out people. Triticum Agricolam Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 I guess it would make sense if say, my amp only puts out 1,400 and I'm trying to tune it as if it puts out 1,600. Would still like some more opinions, though. The reason you are seeing 40v but only 20 amps when hooked up to your speaker is because the impedance of the speaker doesn't stay at 1 ohm. It rises above whatever your DC resistance is all over the place as the frequency changes. You don't get the amperage your are expecting because the impedance is higher than you are expecting. ETA: Everything I said above is assuming you have the gains set correctly and are not clipping. If you are clipping you have other problems to deal with other than impedance. Might just buy a new one off Amazon. Free same day shipping. So if I'm getting 40V AC and 20A out of my speaker wire, that's only about 800RMS. Surely the 1600.1D would do more than that. It still doesn't explain why my dust caps get rather warm.

Might give me the power I'm looking for without having to spend a lot of money.

That could be due to you creating distortion in the signal by putting your gain to high, or even playing music that is not truely clean. Edit: To your upgrading of your amp, buy a used quality amp off here if you can. I couldn't buy new gear so I bought mine used, much cheaper. Damnit, I can't figure out how to delete my duplicate post. Is it possible? Anyways, the BRX2016.1D is about $250 on Amazon, and is a lot more hassle free than buying used, on the forums at least. I could probably sell my current amp and get some of the money back.

I must say, since I went to a decent amp, I am not ever going back down to lower gear.
