Take a look at this amp pic. Is my assumption legitimate?

So this is the amp that was supposed to power the 4 HDS3 12S that I recently built a box for. The shop that tried to install this when the customer had his amp rack built claims it doesnt work. I think otherwise. If you look at the terminals youll see that one power and one ground from each side is completely screwed down. Leading me to think that they were never unscrewed and never had any wire there when the shop attempted to install it. The other power and ground and screwed down enough to accomoodate the pathetic 4 awg wire the shop ran in his truck. I think they hooked up one power and one ground, didnt get any output, and claimed the amp was broken.

This amp has never been installed in a vehicle vefore. Yea its old but has been in foam packaging on a shelf in a closet for years. Here is the inside and its in magnificent condition.

Gotta run home to grab some 0 awg and hook up both set of connections. Anyone thinking the shop fucked up?

even if the amp only had 4 gauge on 1 of the inputs, the amp will still work until the current draw exceeds the limits of the 4 gauge. at that point the voltage will drop and amp will more than likely shut off with low voltage protection.

Not sure why we'd jump to conclusions on something so petty. Just test it out yourself man.

The remote set screw is all the way down too. Does that mean they didn't hookup a remote turn-on wire? It's the same nonsense assumption.

Well considering they cut a blow through and then built a sealed box that sat 2 inches away from the cutout and the shitty quality of the box they built , and the fact that they were incapable of designing a 4th order for this build it was a safe bet that they didnt know how to install it. And the remote is a tiny wire. It could have been installed and yanked out. The power and ground not so much.

As it stands the amp most likely had been installed improperly. I just wired it up properly and while it's not working properly Im not getting the symptoms the shop was getting. I get power on, leds lit, no output. The shop was getting intermittent protect lights and a loud constant clicking noise. So off the Houston with this one for repairs.

I pawned this amp years ago. Pawn shope had a bench with power and ground leads but only 1 set. Had to run a jumper from power to other power, same for ground to get the power light to come on.

well must be 2 seperate amps internally then. DC Power DD Audio, etc are a mono sub amp, with all connections are paralleled inside. this one must be one of those 2 amps bridged. i hate those.

Yeah I believe it's basically 2 Autotek MM2000s mounted on one board. IIRC the 2000s were 1 ohm stable. I could be wrong but last I attempted to hook up one side it wouldn't come on.

It occurred to me to check with Maxxsonics about repairs before sending the amp to a repair shop in Houston. They have an authorized repair facility in California. Amp ships tomorrow.

More guts.

When I first got it.

Sold it to friend unaware it doesn't work. He still wants it though even if it costs a bit to make it work.
