Matthew Jordan Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 Its a bit of a long story. Hopefully the length helps you better understand without being here. So about 3 weeks ago my sub (sa8) just stopped working. I assumed the problem was the sub because the amp was still powering up. I had a pair of two 12s kicking around so I built a new box and swapped those out with my other one. Well they didn't work either. I researched around and some people said that for no reason amps sometimes stop working. Since my amp was just a cheap fix because my other one was stolen that seamed logical to me. So I replaced it with a crescendo symphony 1500.1. Still nothing. I replaced the rcas. Still nothing. I made sure all connections were proper and still connected. I also took a battery and put the positive to the positive, negative to the negative. The 2 12s moved, but not my single subwoofer in the beginning. So that is obviously toast. Could their be any other problems I'm missing or ways to trouble shoot i cant read an analog clock
reedal Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 New subs, new amp, new RCA's, check. For future reference, it's better to test voltages/signal before spending money on new items you may not need. Now you need to check your head unit. Go through all of the settings, make sure the sub out or sub level is not turned off, no high pass filter turned on/up, etc. What head unit do you have so we can help decide what settings to check? Also, use a digital multimeter, put the negative/black probe on ground, and the positive probe on the center pin of your RCA (do both, not just one) and measure AC voltage with music playing (but not hooked up to the amplifier obviously). Do not remove or plug in RCA's with the head unit powered on! Do that and report back SMD Tool Map https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/193176-smd-tool-map-new-november-2014/ Build log https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/197217-reeds-03-tahoe-hat-sqaq-singer-xs-shca-cockbox-80prs/?page=32
RainStryke Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 Sounds like your head unit. I've had that happen to me before... The RCA jacks on the back of my head unit went out.
Matthew Jordan Posted September 20, 2015 Author Report Posted September 20, 2015 I really didn't spend unnecessary money. My system was mostly stuff I bought when I was a noob (I still am but leas of). So eventually I was going to get the symphony, this was justification for it. And I had to upgrade all my wires the rcas came with it. I have a pioneer DEH-X3700UI headunit. That's fairly new. Doing as instructed stand by. i cant read an analog clock
reedal Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 Thank you. SMD Tool Map https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/193176-smd-tool-map-new-november-2014/ Build log https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/197217-reeds-03-tahoe-hat-sqaq-singer-xs-shca-cockbox-80prs/?page=32
mcfalcon Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 "Doing as instructed". This guy might make it around here. Still learning but have started gathering.
Matthew Jordan Posted September 20, 2015 Author Report Posted September 20, 2015 The rcas we're at .002 voltage. Im assuming that's 2 volts. i cant read an analog clock
Matthew Jordan Posted September 20, 2015 Author Report Posted September 20, 2015 Disregard this post. Problem is solved. But i do want to thank you guys for the quick responses and help. Appreciate it guys i cant read an analog clock
mcfalcon Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 May we ask what the problem was? Still learning but have started gathering.
