12v transformer for homebuilt subwoofer

Recommended Posts

I am kicking around the idea of building a powered sub for my Yamaha HTS. I've got the sub, a Pioneer Premier 10" 4ohm and an amp, an Alpine MRV100. I need a 12v20A transformer and have seen Meanwell LED transformers with those specs for cheap on FleaBay. Anyone have any input, or a suitable alternative? Thanks.

I'd probably go for a 30 amp power supply, just to be on the safe side. Here is one on ebay:

Keep in mind, using a 12v amp for home audio use is definitely a hack job and is very inefficient. If you have put much effort into it at all, both in terms of time and/or money, getting an amp that plugs into the wall very quickly becomes the more feasible solution.
