infinitefoamies Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 So I am looking to install a Boss BV9986Bl in my 1971' K10 Suburban frame off. My plan is to fab up a tray to hold the head unit, CB Radio, and other associated electronics to moves on a hinge system to retract behind the dash to keep the stock look when not in use. The issue here is that this head unit has retracting touch screen that, when the unit is powered, opens. If this happens while my electronics tray is behind the dash board it will cause issues. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to disable this feature? Or of a head unit of similar spec that does not do this? 1971 K10 Suburban - Chummins 1973 MG B GT 1981 Tartan 3000 1988 F350 XLT Lariat IDI
tboorn Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 some, i couldnt find in the manual if this one does, have the option to make it so that the screen only comes out when you push the "open" button, since it has all the buttons and knobs and a LCD screen on the front already, i would be willing to bet you can set it so that the screen does not open automatically when it powers on. infinitefoamies Posted November 5, 2015 Author Report Posted November 5, 2015 According to the reviews it always opens. I guess a work around is to have a toggle switch to control power to the head unit instead of splicing into the key'd Hot. However this is lacking elegance. 1971 K10 Suburban - Chummins 1973 MG B GT 1981 Tartan 3000 1988 F350 XLT Lariat IDI
jk13 Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Microswitch that connects ign. to the radio once the tray is fully open. Static drops are my bag.
infinitefoamies Posted November 5, 2015 Author Report Posted November 5, 2015 Problem with that is I would like the radio to be able to work with the tray closed as the radio works with the screen in. 1971 K10 Suburban - Chummins 1973 MG B GT 1981 Tartan 3000 1988 F350 XLT Lariat IDI

Deeznutz Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Looking at the video the touch screen is not that sensitive at times. The guy has to keep touching the screen a few times to activate the selection. -Frank

infinitefoamies Posted November 6, 2015 Author Report Posted November 6, 2015 Thanks for posting DeezNutz, looks like its acceptable for the price. Full time college student so funding is low.Jk13 yea I may have worded it poorly. Edit: I looked into the Jensen units and they seem to only have A/V in on the front panel, having this on the rear panel is a key feature. 1971 K10 Suburban - Chummins 1973 MG B GT 1981 Tartan 3000 1988 F350 XLT Lariat IDI
