bsneon98
Top notch work man. Guy at work gave me a Old school planet audio amp. Board says made by ZED audio in USA. This gives me some motivation to fix the thing lol Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/152954-1998-plymouth-neon-updates/
Wicks
And finally to wrap this project up, the 1st amp is done. I needed to wait and wait and wait and wait for some "viton" rubber to arrive which was delayed. Finally came in, cut it into strips and mounted the aluminum rail bars down. Time to test. Squeezed out 300W before my power supply started limiting. Since this was an older amp I started to feel around on various parts to make sure they were secure, not overheating and whatnot. Well when pressing down on the main power supply toriod, I got some arcing underneath it. I immediately shut off the power and looked around....hoping nothing was damaged. Then I saw this little guy. If you look under the windings, there is a large rectifying diode on the other side of the board. Three of its leads are sticking up rather far and getting very close to the wire that is extending out from the toroid. I was able to sneak in a set of clippers and snip off the excess lead. Powered up again and pressed on the toroid...all good! That's a wrap. The same owner of these amps also has another somewhat oldie he wanted me to look at. Stay posted. KiKaZz74
Damn this is awesome. I've got a old school hcca2100 competition amp. Same style. Very rough shape inside and out. Wish I could get it fixed. It works but it's a bit ugly and has remade end plates. Good attempt but not original. Case is in rough shape but I'm scared to touch it to lose any more of its value.
