High Output alternator question.

sounds like your idle problem is because its a 320 and those suck at idle, the alterntor is reaching its turn on speed and thats why you go from battery voltage to charging voltage back and forth. your car idle must be too low and is not turning on. the squeeling at higher rpms is from belt not being tight enough.

try a better/tighter belt and see if that solves all issues. you may need to down grade to a 240 small case hairpin to get better idle output

I believe my car idles at about 800 rpm after driving around some, but I did go ahead and change out the belt with a smaller one and man is it tight. The tensioner doesn't even go back to the original starting place (its spring loaded) because of how tight a fit it is so I am certain that the belt has sufficeint contact on the smaller pulley.. I noticed the squeaking did die down a lot but there is still a faint squeak coming out of it and the voltage still fluctuates like hell during the initial startup but then stabilizes after I drive around for a bit. When I turn up my system I am still droppoing into the low 12s like 12.1 and I don't think I am going to be able to install my skar 4500.1 with that kind of voltage drop without burning it out Also, I emailed michael singer and he explained to me that when he tested the alternator at idle (roughly 750 RPMS) the alternator was able to put out 182 amps.

anything over 250A in my opinion needs gator back or any other high quality belt. there is such a thing as too tight for th ebelt and its possible the bearings cant take it and thats what you hear squeeling.

what is year make and model of car. can you get a large case on there? it may be beneficial and better to get a 240 on there. youll see more power most of the time. the 320 potential is only unlocked on the freeway.
