Bsdunn1984 Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Ok,first I am not a newbie by any means. I am looking for information that I can't seem to find anywhere, even Ford websites don't seem to have what I need to know in order to make a decision for a temporary but nice fix to my door subs. I know the rattles are very hard to stop. I plan on upgrading everything and do the intend to keep using the 8" subs in my doors. I am curious on the exact specifications on the amplifier that is running my subs in the doors. Is it possible to use the Factory amp on a low powered 10 or 12 in a really nice custom box? If so I need to know ohm loads and things of that nature. Also I do have an aftermarket deck with sub control so I can the crossover and level output through my head unit. All help is very appreciated. Thanks
MotorCityFats13 Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 im sure you could use the factory amps for something but you would need really low powered speakers... most of the factory amps are basically equal to or slightly higher than headunit output.... they are fed by something around 16awg wire.... they get the name shaker 500 from max not rms and pairing everything with more efficient low wattage drivers..... the mach 460 that was in my 04 cobra was for a lack of better words garbage and was maybe 200 watts on a good day ..... they really stuff 8's in those doors and are they really subs or are they midrange or midbass
bcbrassard Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Midbass would be guess because they usually have a 4x6 abouve that or speakers in the dash. Isnt the sub in the back seat?
yurvalentine Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 The 500 has 8s in the doors along with the 6x8s, then another pair of 6x8s in the rear deck. The 1000 also has a pair of 10s in the trunk. I've heard the factory amps used with aftermarket drivers, it actually sounds pretty damn good. Not a ton of power but it's also not half bad if you do it right. I believe with the 8s you can use a lower impedance driver and get a good amount of extra power out of the amp.
Bsdunn1984 Posted December 1, 2015 Author Report Posted December 1, 2015 The Factory 8 subs are dual 1.2 ohms. I swapped them for the Shelbyville kicker replacement upgrade but they are single 2 ohm. And don't sound any different maybe even lacking a bit. But I know I it's about 60 rms per coil per door so 120x2 on the subs in the doors which is 240 and is about right considering the name shaker 500. So I my main question is how the Factory amp is wired and if it's a single channel with dual outputs or if it a two channel left and right sub amp. Either way I know I need a dual 2 single sub that is effeicent which I can do by building the right box. I am really needing information on the sub amp and wire configuration as mentioned.
