JakeMN Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 So I just finished wiring up 4 batteries by soldering the lugs on and tested the continuity of the negatives and it was jumping around slowly from .4-1.9. Is this something to be worried about?? I know .0 is perfect and ideal but is 1.9 something to worry about? I don't wanna start blowing up my amp. Edit: Just tested again with actually touching the wire instead of holding the probes onto the bolts and it seems to be staying at .0. I think I'm good! If anyone could explain to me thought what a bad continuity would be that'd be great. Bass head in training. MotorCityFats13 Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 without any load you should be close to a 0 vdc drop.... I dont know what test you are doing but did you make full ground runs or are you going frame?
JakeMN Posted December 29, 2015 Author Report Posted December 29, 2015 without any load you should be close to a 0 vdc drop.... I dont know what test you are doing but did you make full ground runs or are you going frame? Just from my first battery to my last battery (fourth). Testing in ohms on my DMM. Batteries are out of the car right now just wanted to test continuity with my soldered connections. Bass head in training. im_quagmire Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 check your grounding. shouldn't have jumps of such with clean connections. JakeMN Posted December 29, 2015 Author Report Posted December 29, 2015 what size cable.... and how many feet 1/0 Gauge, they are all 10" long and there is 6 of them so 5' worth of cable. When I touched the probes into the actual wire it was holding steady at 0. It was jumping around when I just was holding the probe down with my thumbs on both ends. It's good now. kirill007 Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 Sounds like a bad solder connection. Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
boometro Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 when testing continuity do not actually touch the items you are testing/lead ends with your fingers as it will muck up the readings. just holding the two leads from a meter with your fingers will show continuity through your skin/body.
