ShadeTreeMechanic
yes, unless for some reason your ported 10" box is more effeciant then you might actually be ok.. 6 of 1 half dozen of another I think this is the fun part. My system will never be done because i will never quit messing with it. As soon a i reach a goal all of the sudden it wasn't high enough. I might put the port tubes outside the box to make it easy to test. I had a train set when i was a kid and i had more fun building on it than watching it go in circles. ShadeTreeMechanic
Is the output of a box port linear as volume increases? Linear up to the point where it is not big enough to move the volume of air, and output drops off? 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
MADVIBES
are you asking if vent velocity increases as subwoofer output increases? ShadeTreeMechanic
Yes so that might effect output at high levels if the area of the port is too small? 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
MADVIBES
I think with a rounded 4" you would not hear any vent noise at those freq's you could do a 6" not sure how long it would need to bebased on the fact I dont even know how big the 10" box is. leaving the port out the box will make it easy to pull out and test different sizes. ShadeTreeMechanic
So when the port maxes out and makes noises, does it hurt the sub? Triticum Agricolam
So when the port maxes out and makes noises, does it hurt the sub? Each 10 chamber is 1 cuft. and stuffed half full with poly fill. When the port velocity gets too high, your ported box begins to act like a sealed box. As long as your box isn't too big, you won't damage your subs, though the port noise won't sound very pleasant. Where people get into trouble is when they have pretty big ported boxes. Cone excursion is higher with a sealed box that with ported (until you get much below tuning), if their port velocity gets too high their cone excursion will really increase and then the run the risk of damaging their subs. It takes a pretty extreme situation for that to happen though. ShadeTreeMechanic
Excellent info guys! There is so much going through my head, im going to have to take a step back and figure out what my next move should be. Right now the 4001D is on the same 2AWG 25 ft run to the front that the M-4 was on with a 250A alt and starting AGM. I have a big run of 4/0 to put in and maybe get 1 or 2 batteries to stick somewhere. The way it is now im sure i cant develop full power. The volt gauge needle on the dash starts bouncing and i turn it down a little. On second thought maybe its a good thing the subs are only 1200 WRMS each. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
