Clownrock95 Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 Is there any downsides to running multiple small power runs (ex. 2 4ga runs) Reason I ask is I got 2 clearance (75% off remodel sale) ofc install kits and for the wattage I'll be running 2 runs would be just over kill enough that I would feel safe doing it untile I upgrade wattage Each kit is 560 watts rms rated iirc I'm only gona run 900 total so in theory I would have ~220 of extra wiggle room (Tl;Dr) is there any downside to running two small runs instead of one big run other than cost I already know you can I'm just asking for downsides (if there is any)
MotorCityFats13 Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 I dont have the numbers but 2 runs of 1/0 flows more current than 1 run of 2/0... so 2 runs of 4.... 4awg can flow more amps than people really think... not for a 3,000 rms system but I stick with a single run of 4 SHCA CCA and have no problems with voltage drop on stock electrical pushing around 1,500 rms.... if the wire kits you bought are AWG real sized then you should be golden for quite some upgrades in the future... but if its low grade 4 gauge then it might be closer to 6 gauge.... what brand is this wire?...... while ago I bought a cheap kit for a person at work and said do not buy it but he instised and I measured the wire with a pair of calipers and showed him it was not even close to 4awg but he still did not care.... it was his $15 not mine
Ahmed Johnson Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 One run of 0 gauge is better than 2 runs of 4. The one run of 0 gauge would be able to carry more power than two 4 gauge wires. One 0 gauge will have more strands than 2 4 gauge runs.

MADVIBES Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 2 runs of four is roughly 2 gauge worth of wire, it would take 4 runs of 4 gauge to have the same capacitance as a run of 1/0, that being said you are for sure safe so long as your wire doesnt get warm you are golden. Clownrock95 Posted January 23, 2016 Author Report Posted January 23, 2016 Correction its 6ga Aside from that from what I under stand the only down side is cost and its not as good as 1/0 (not really a big deal to me as I'm not gona upgrade my amps without upgrading wire)
everybodyknowme Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 It's fine to use multiple runs of what you have now. If want to upgrade later it will be best if you just rewire with heavier ga (BUT YOU ALREDY KNOW THAT)
Clownrock95 Posted January 23, 2016 Author Report Posted January 23, 2016 Compared the cadence superflex 8ga the scoche 6ga is noticeably bigger
MADVIBES Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 I would hope so, its 50% bigger DB DRAG PSYCHLONE PRO 156.3 30 SECOND AVERAGE FO MAX AT 26HZ LEGAL DASH DRIVER DOOR OPEN 158.0@30 HZ MY BEST SO FAR, HOPEFULLY A 160 COME FEBUARY. 156.9@26hz 158.0@30hz
Clownrock95 Posted January 23, 2016 Author Report Posted January 23, 2016 I would hope so, its 50% bigger I was just saying it doesn't seem to be undersized (at least to much)
