Need some opinions/advise, subs up or subs down

So I'm working on some numbers for a design for 2 Ampere Audio 10's in my center console. I've got the numbers, and the design i want to do although not drawn up yet. My question is, about subs direction and port direction.

I can do subs up, and have a metal mesh screen over them to protect them yet see them still and allow complete air flow.

The other option is subs facing downward to the floor.

Both designs I had port facing the back seat. Wasn't sure if the port should face the same direction as the subs, or not.

I'm planning on trying both enclosures, but I'm wondering what, from peoples experiences, would be more successful?

Like to hear some opinions on this and experiences on it as well.

I saw a video of johnathon price (lifeofprice) on youtube build a box for a single cab truck with box as center cousle, he did a 12" sundown with port and sub facing up.

if i did a center cousel build in my truck i would have my sub(s) fire down and port back. This way i can still have it as a center seat

Subs down, port forward or back.

With subs up, even with a grill, you're gonna spill something on them. Who wants chip crumbs on their subs?

I'm not so worried about spilling anything on them. If I do a grill anyway, it'll be covered with grill cloth which won't allow much through anyway. I was more wondering about the sound of it.

And actually maybe I do want chips on my subs. Then I could listen to music and have a snack on the ready at the same time! Hmmmmmm

Wondering about port forward or back though. I'll probably do it towards the back, because of stuff i'll be putting up front. The area would be covered up anyway. But have you heard it with port either way? I'm wondering if there would be any difference in sound. Seems like there wouldn't be, unless it was close enough to the dash to give it more force as the air comes out. Maybe that doesn't even make sense. I don't know.

That was actually what I was thinking about when I thought of subs down. The loading part, not the cone control part. Thanks, good information.

I think at the end of the day, just for shits and giggles, I'll probably make both designs and see which one works best. I appreciate your guys' input on this. Makes me think the subs down would be the better choice to go with.
