D3100 Under The Hood

Recommended Posts

I thought I couldn't do it but I made it happen. Pulled out the old yellow top and dropped in the D3100. I was gonna lay the battery down on its side but Dmanson stopped by and convinced me to at least try to set it up right. I removed the yellow top and stock battery tray and it sat it there. I added a Summit Racing battery tray and bolted the tray down to make sure this monstrosity of a battery doesn't move.

Here's pics of the old yellow top and how small it is compared to the D3100

Here's pics of the D3100 sitting under the hood. Since it was a tight fit I put electrical tape over the positive terminal but if you notice the 0/1 gauge wire going into the ring terminals sit up higher than the Powermaster terminal and it does not touch the hood. I still want to find some type of plastic piece to cover the terminal tho.

Once I was finished installing the batts I was chilling and drinking a beer and then the doorbell rang. It was the mailman with my missinglink module. So I was like what the hell. Went out and installed it. Pretty straight forward. This thing takes more time tying down the wires than it takes to install to the alt wire. Very good product.

Here's the module

Check out what the voltage is sitting at. Gotta love it.

I love the electrical tape. I thought we were the onlys who did that.

Battery looks snug as a bug. I upgraded batteries recently too. Removed my battery tray and built a bracket. It was so tight I bassically just wedged it in and made a bracket to hold it there.

Before the module I would sit at 14.3 - 14.5 depending on the temp.

Another one will fit between the frame rails behind the front bumper, that is where my HC2400 is. Build a bracket out of angle iron and you are set. Keeps more room in the back for equipment.
