Efreakingt Posted May 5, 2016 Report Posted May 5, 2016 I've been searching all over and I can't quite seem to find an answer to this. When building a box for a sub of this size (55 lbs and 1500 watts rms), what is the minimum needed material thickness and what's ideal? I see boxes ranging from 3/4 up to 1 and 2 inch designs, braced and non braced. My previous systems always used light weight subs at 300 and under wattage so I want to know what considerations I should have in my box design.

Efreakingt Posted May 5, 2016 Author Report Posted May 5, 2016 I know thinner than 3/4 is bad. Is there any con to 1 inch or is it the thicker the better? I'm not concerned with weight or size since I've got plenty of space.
Triticum Agricolam Posted May 5, 2016 Report Posted May 5, 2016 1" material really sucks to work with, the sheets weigh like 120+ lbs. There really isn't much advantage to it either. Like Joe X said, 3/4" material with proper bracing and a double baffle is all you need. People don't realize how much strength bracing adds. A 3/4" panel with one brace in the middle will be as stiff as a 1-1/2" panel with no bracing. Efreakingt Posted May 5, 2016 Author Report Posted May 5, 2016 Currently I can get a 1 inch braced box, 4 cubes, 32 hz, 48 sq in port. Or I have a builder that could do whatever. The one thing I liked about the 1 inch was the weight, at 160lbs loaded it's not easy to move. The con to it is the extra cost. Bottom line is sound and durability tho so either options should do fine?
