Say I just get a front stage setup and go with the Type R components and leave my rear ones stock for now. I will need a 4 channel amp? One channel for front left tweeter, One channel for front right tweeter, One channel for front left door, One channel for front right door?. Is that correct? Since coaxial are all built with driver and tweeter in one they are considered one channel?

Personally I wouldn't run coaxials in the front, look for a component set which consists of a tweeter, mid, and a crossover (passive) and you can get a 2 channel amp to run them or a 4 ch for future upgrades like mentioned above...what's your budget so we can point you to the right direction...a lot of great companies out there with great products just gotta see what your budget is...

I think part of the amp channel confusion is whether or not you'll be running active or passive crossover networks. If you're going to run the passive networks that come with each component set, then each pair of speakers (one tweeter + one woofer) would be a channel. If you were running active each speaker would require it's own channel from an amplifier.

For example: I'm slowly building my door pods for my car. Each front door will house 1 tweeter, 1 midrange, and one woofer. I will be running full active, so I'll need 6 channels from my amp(s) to power the front stage. If I decide to run rear speakers then that's 2 more channels, and the sub stage is another channel.

Yes my front stage is the type r component set with the rear deck having type r coaxials. So if I use the passive crossover that comes with the set that's considered 1 channel for front stage. Do coaxial also come with a crossover? So say I ditch the rear passenger doors and just have the component in the front and coaxial in the rear deck and use the passive crossovers that come with it. That would mean I just need a 4 channel amp? And if I decide to add the rear passenger doors that would be another 2 more channels. So I would need a 6 channel amp. And if I decide to run active crossovers than I would need 8 channel. Is that right? Does the same go for active and passive for coaxial?

2 ch amp for the 2 comp sets, 4 ch amp for the rear speakers...don't worry about the rear too much, just finish the front stage then worry about the rear later....and if you want to learn about active and passive, there's a couple topics about it in here...just google active vs passive smd...

Going full active with coaxial speakers kind of defeats the purpose of doing am active build, having control over every single speaker.
