dsw422
Hey guys. I've started working on another box build. This one is going into the back of an 04 silverado crew cab. It will house a JL 13.5 tw5. Here come the part I'm sure many will of you that kno JL products (specifically the tw5) will disagree on... The box will be PORTED and/ or sealed... Now your like what? So heres what's going on.. the customer wants a ported box (cuzz he thinks he knows everything and is pretty stubborn). But I kno that sealed is the proper box for this particular sub and will sound best. So I've decided to go ahead and build the box ported approx .72 cuft tuned to 38hz using a 3inch pvc port. I'll be making a plate that can be used to cover the port thus making the box sealed at .89 cuft. I have told him to test the box sealed and ported and decide which sounds better. I have warned him of the downsides of running this sub ported. So hopefully he will mainly run it sealed. Anyway, here's the build.. the computer design is actually wider than what is being built by 12 inches. 2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Factory Sony 10 Speaker Sound System 1994 Ford Bronco Dual head unit (i kno) Sony door speakers Kenwood Rear Speakers Custom Center console in the works. will house an NVX NSW10" https://m.facebook.com/WinnsCustomCarAudio/

dsw422
That's the kind of customer that isn't worth dealing with. I kno right.. But in all honesty, I'm just trying to take in as many builds as I can no matter the customer difficulty just so I can get my name out there.. I do though build them per manufacturer recommendations like this box when sealed. I'm pretty sure the ported version won't sound as good, but I understand gotta make ur customers happy.. lol 2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Factory Sony 10 Speaker Sound System 1994 Ford Bronco Dual head unit (i kno) Sony door speakers Kenwood Rear Speakers Custom Center console in the works. will house an NVX NSW10" https://m.facebook.com/WinnsCustomCarAudio/
MrSkippyJ
How do you even decide on ported specs? dsw422
How do you even decide on ported specs? Modeled it in WinISD.. there seems to have been no signs of cause for failure.. I also spoke 28 JL Audio technician and he even said not to Port but gave no reason why.. 2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Factory Sony 10 Speaker Sound System 1994 Ford Bronco Dual head unit (i kno) Sony door speakers Kenwood Rear Speakers Custom Center console in the works. will house an NVX NSW10" https://m.facebook.com/WinnsCustomCarAudio/
MrSkippyJ
I guess that's what I mean, I'm assuming the specs of the sub make it unsuitable for a ported enclosure. Quiet
I wonder how tight of a suspension you can have with a 5 inch coil. go ahead and do it, let us know how it sounds. 2007 Pacifica Rebuild. Less quiet. Still not loud.
dsw422
I guess that's what I mean, I'm assuming the specs of the sub make it unsuitable for a ported enclosure. This is exactly what the technician said when I spoke to him.. "I really can not give a ported suggestion. I have been told that the subwoofer could become unstable and the voice coil could get damaged. I would only suggest sealed in a Net volume between .80-90 cubic foot." 2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Factory Sony 10 Speaker Sound System 1994 Ford Bronco Dual head unit (i kno) Sony door speakers Kenwood Rear Speakers Custom Center console in the works. will house an NVX NSW10" https://m.facebook.com/WinnsCustomCarAudio/

ckeeler11
So what happens when he runs it ported and damages the sub? hope you had him sign a disclaimer saying your not responsible for him using the subwoofer not as designed.
