Now this is the part where we wanted to get creative. We had the idea of essentially making the port flow into one continuous piece of the cab. If you noticed, our port side pieces are a little short. Well, you'll see why we did that right now. We needed them to be short in order to glass the box and cab into one flowing piece. We used standard Walmart fleece and a lot of resin. Then applied two layers of glass on top with even more resin than we probably needed HA...

For filler, I really like to use UPOL Flyweight Gold. It's really tough to find in local shops, but readily available online. I prefer it over Bondo because it's extremely easy to sand (including by hand) so it makes detailing very easy, and it has a relatively quick hardening time (roughly 20 minutes depending on mix and temperature outside). We really like to cake it on there and then have at it with sanders. It's so easy to sand that it really doesn't matter if it's a little thick in some spots.

So although I didn't mention this earlier, this build needed to be completed by a specific show date (August 6th - which has already passed). So the next photos you see are going to be rough. We were rushed for the show deadline, but fully plan on going in and really detailing the box in the off season after all of our shows. We laid down a few coats of primer and then let the red paint flow.

Now to pop on the back. Our original plan was to be able to fit a full sheet across the back, but that proved to be impossible rather quickly. So we ripped the board in half to fit the sides, then cross stacked 2x4s and then another layer behind the 2x4s. Of course, plenty of wood glue and PL 3x were applied.
