crossover resistors getting hot?

whats up guys.. i have a set of DLS components in my truck, had them for years and recently just installed them back in.. they have been playing flawlessly until last week. blew 2 resistors and a capacitor on both sides? all the same resistors and cap? i dont know what could have caused this? they can handle 100rms and im running 75rms@4ohms to them, the gains are set less then half and my voltage doesn't drop below 13.7ish? i ordered the resistors and caps off parts express all of the same specs soldered them up and they work good but after about 10 minutes of play the resistors i replaced get really hot, like hot enough to burn your finger. could it be that the rest of the resistors are damaged too and adding a big load on the ones i replaced?

the parts i replaced on each side

1x 5w 7.5ohm resistor

1x 5w 2.2ohm resistor

1x 12uF 250v cap i used a Dayton of the same spec

your boy NEEDS HELP! im stumped

You will need to set your gains correctly. Search for DD-1. How much power are you putting into them? The mode of failure for a resistor is to open. A hurt resistor will not cause amperage to go up. The resistors getting hot is normal. Burning out is not. Set your gains properly and it might not be a problem any more.

thanks for the input! its just odd to me ive never experienced a crossover burning out on me like that.. the cap and resistors literally blew up! the ceramic coating on the resistors were black and burnt on oneside and when i desoldered them the coating crumbled apart and the caps blew all the guts out.

Back in the day before bass blockers were invented, I would get caps from radio shack for my 6x9s. They would pop like a firecracker when they went out. lol

WTF^^

yes, set gains correctly. Also, too much power can cause that.

I have had the same thing happen to me, RF, Crescendo, etc.....but I am a noob so take that for what it is......
