xpoppadaddyx
The width of the port is 4.75 which needs to be the same at the bend. The physical length of the port is 25.75. So in sketch up assemble the port as 1 component, build all the other parts as separate ones then put them together. Course that what I'm reading by the Torres example... 2002 Chevy Trailblazer (Build) 2013 Nissan Altima (Build) Poppa's YouTube Channel Poppa's FB Page Poppa's Instagram
ckeeler11
How would I measure the port length. So I can draw it out or put it in sketchup. I've searched and seen that you measure right down the middle and subtract half the width. Is that true? Correct port length is measured down the center of the port. So for a 4.75" port i would draw a line 2.375" from side and back wall the length of the port in this case 32" long
RawbDeeni
Where should I brace? How many Braces. Shape of Braces?
Triticum Agricolam
There are lots of ways to do good bracing, here are some guidelines. 1. Keep unbraced spans appropriate for material used. (Under 10"-12" for 3/4" MDF/Plywood) 2. Brace across to opposite panels when possible, otherwise brace to adjoining panel. 3. Minimize bracing in corners where it is unneeded. 4. Take up the least amount of internal volume as possible. 5. Minimize disruptive bracing in high airflow areas. RawbDeeni
How much bracing is .2 in Torres? Or were you just throwing something in there as an example?
RawbDeeni
Here is what I have so far.
Triticum Agricolam
I just put .2 for bracing in torres since that's a decent amount. If your internal volume is off by .1 its not going to matter. As far as what to do for bracing, it depends on the style you want to use. You can use window braces, dowels, stips of MDF/plywood, etc. For you box I'd suggest bracing the baffle on both sides of the sub cutout. I'd brace from the baffle back to the port panel on the left side and the back panel on the right. A window brace would work well on the left side of the box, you could brace the baffle, left port panel, and back port panel all together. Actually you could to pretty much the same thing to the right of the sub cutout as well. Other than that I'd brace the top and bottom panels together in one or two places to keep them from flexing and you should be in pretty good shape. RawbDeeni
So would two proper window braces on each side of the baffle be good one to the back port wall the other to the back panel be adequate. or do i need more up and down bracing? Triticum Agricolam
Two window braces like you describe should be good, but I would still suggest bracing the top a bottom panels together at at least one point. That brace can be a simple strip of material cut from scrap.
