SQ Head unit, does digital-out matter?

All the info you can share about "digital out put" on a head unit is welcome. Im just wondering whats the pros and cons about it. Does it really improve SQ? How does it improve SQ? Will it improve all types of music sources, like cd, wired ipod/iphone, bluetooth?

First, it can't improve the source. Nothing will ever be better than the source it comes from. As for improving SQ, well it has to be converted at some point. So in the end you have the same analog signal being amplified. I can't imagine there being any discernible differences in how it sounds. A bit of a guess though, I haven't used anything buy your standard RCA inputs & outputs.
