Router for sub box building?

Recommended Posts

Also, I'm not sure if you've already said anything about it, but a Jasper Jig (or another brand circle jig) will be your best friend when cutting the circles.

Oh yeah..another question. Is a router table absolutely necessary or can I manage with just the router itself? I'm mainly going to be using it for cutting the speaker holes. I mean I'd like to do some round over work, but I'm not going to die if I don't.

no the router table isn't necessary, and you can do the roundovers without the use of the table. The only thing I would say to watch out for with doing router work by hand, is to make sure you feed the router against the rotation of the bit. If you try and feed it with the rotation, it can try to run away from you (just like a circular saw).

+1 to what Jhunt said.

Router tables are nice, but you don't need one for basic box work. It's one of those tools that you will know when you need it.

If you haven't seen them already Mark at Car Audio Fabrication on YouTube has a lot of good videos on box building. They are worth a watch.
