BMS Posted November 11, 2016 Report Posted November 11, 2016 So my boxes have been working out quite well I built one for 2 massive summo 64's and one for a skar vvx 12. the vvx 12 was very much to spec the summo 64's were definitely not but both still turned out great now I am going to build a ventd box for a re audio xxx 15. here is the recommendation http://reaudio.com/products/BOX%20V2%20PDF/XXX%2015%20VENTED(1).pdf. now is it just me or does it recommend i tune to 27 hz which i like but the port area is 16 sq inches for a 2.7 vb box that is really small why can i go 45 square inches of port area i know that the port will get like 40 inches longer thats not a problem is there a reason they recommend 16 square inch? how do i know if it is a v1 or a v2 i din't see it labeled.

Madvibes is right, if a port gets too long you can have issues with pipe resonance. How much of a problem it will be depends on how long the port is and high of frequencies you are sending to your sub. A 20" long port will have a resonance at about 170 Hz, a 40" long port will resonate at about 85 Hz. I try to keep ports from getting much over 40", but I've done quite a few close to or at 40" without issues.
