reedal Posted January 23, 2017 Report Posted January 23, 2017 Yes, you can run a separate charging system. No, the alternators do not have to match. Pro of a separate charging system is you have an alt dedicated to just the car's electronics and an alt dedicated just to the aftermarket equipment you put on that circuit. Con: you have less potential alt power by having a separate circuit. I can't hear you Posted January 24, 2017 Author Report Posted January 24, 2017 Either of you have a wiring diagram or link to one my setup at the moment- 2000 ford excursion stock CD player stock door speakers Single stock 130a alternator rca line out adapter 1/0 wielding cable big three 4g power and ground to amp (running 1/0 wielding cable today) 750cca battery 150a inline fuse ample exonic 1500DX amplifier (working toward concept cd-3910) 2 lanzar optidrive opti1522d's (have 3 matching opti1522ds only have box for the two as of now) my plan is to end up with all three optis in a nice wood stained box on the concept amp running either directly off a separate alternator or off separate battery bien charged solely by second alternator with 1/0 wielding cable all around, as to when I attempted the concept on just the 2 optis it shut the truck off goin 45mph at about 2.5k rpm at about 2/5 gain on amp I'm not supplying enough power to satisfy my needs im not looking to spend any more money than necessary all of my components are things I ran into extremely cheap priced for instance I only paid 125$ for the amp the concept amp the amp I'm bumpin now the ample only ran me 60$ so I'm a cheap ass yea but if I can save money asking questions and shopping at a scrap yard idk maybe I'm hillbilly lmao I already have a good alternator and battery in a mustang that blowed heads before I bought it for 200$ an sold the wheels and tires for 450$ If I can safely Frankenstein that battery and alternator to supply sufficient power to the amp with the cost of wielding cable I'll still turn slight financial profit from mustang. What size battery and alternator would you recommend for the three optis on the concept cd-3910 no over kill just enough to safely supply sustenance
