Unicorn in the Second Skin Warehouse?

Recommended Posts

Sometimes, in the Second Skin warehouse we have to get creative and come up with our own solutions to solve daily distributing, warehousing, or shipping issues we come across. And this is how the "UNICORN" was born!!!

As we started selling more and more full and half rolls of Luxury Liner Mass Loaded Vinyl on our website, Amazon, and Ebay it was clear we had to come up with an easier way to move the actual mega rolls we cut the smaller rolls out of. With this awkward length and substantial weight we wanted to help prevent back injuries and product damage from drops. So Ken (The Owner of Second Skin) and Eric (Warehouse Manager) went to the drawing board and Google  to find out how carpet distributors man handle their huge rolls of carpet at the factory. And bingo, we found the idea (although there's were way more intense as carpet is much heavier and larger then our Luxury Liner torpedoes). After some trial and error and some time in the welding/cutting/torching shed Ken birthed the "UNICORN" which man handles these huge rolls with ease. No more bending over, lifting, or moving these mega rolls. Just slap the "UNICORN" on either fork lift tooth and drive up to the pallet full of mega rolls, select one, pick it up and reverse back a bit and time to start cutting. The amount of time, effort, and back pains this tool has saved is amazing.........one little idea sparked by the creative genius of the men behind the scenes at Second Skin!!! Keep your mind fresh and always think outside the box to solve problems in your day to day life....even if they are not in your comfort zone.....Americans are born to create and conquer all obstacles in our way

Keep enjoying life and keep your mind fresh....Second Skin For The Win!!!

i worked at a yarn mill/mop factory that made mats as well. They had a huge steel spear for lifting rolls of carpet. Thats cool you took inspiration from that.

Yep, they cost a pretty penny to buy, but are built to withstand 2,000+ lbs.....we didn't need that much weight capacity so we down graded the support beams. But here is a pic of what we modeled ours after. Eric was the only one in the warehouse that could throw one of these over his shoulder with ease, but no reason to wear him out when the fork truck can do the work of 10 men :lifter:
