Optimal voltmeter setup?

A volt meter can be used to monitor a alternator?

With one up front and one in the back you can monitor the voltage difference or voltage drop across the runs that go front to back. If your alt is putting out and the rear batteries are dipping then you might need more runs, more grounds, better grounds, or better connections all around. Or a run might have a blown fuse. Its just a way to make sure all the power is getting from point "A" to point "B" and help you spot a problem.
