ShadeTreeMechanic
The battery would only blow the fuse if the short was between the fuse and the alt. Chances are that the cable between the fuse and the battery would short because it is longer. In this case, the battery would be unprotected and continue to provide current to the short. The alternator would supply current to the short too because it is unable to blow the fuse. If you are worried about your alternator cable shorting out then you have to member that it is also a battery cable and fuses are needed at the alt and the battery. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
reedal
I disagree with the fuse location. Even between the alt and the battery, the fuse should be closest to the battery. No fuse needed close to the alt in my opinion. to each his own. We all have our own risks we're willing to take. I don't fuse my alt to battery at all. It's such a short run that the ampacity at that length will never be met by the max discharge of the battery or alt.
