Charles Phillips
Hello! I just got my car back from the collision repair people after a deer ran into me. So now I remain right where I left off, with my stripped Matrix. I'm getting some ideas for 4th and 6th order enclosures I'd like to test out, but I need a skeleton to build off of. I don't know how to weld, but I'm pretty good with wood. If anyone has any pointers, let me know. It's pretty much like any other hatchback or sedan I assume. PS ignore the mess. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4nVZk8knWyIcGZ1QW1UQmMyT1U https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4nVZk8knWyIbTZ4a0ZocFV4MFU https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4nVZk8knWyIbHMzSDJwbm5JZHM - 2009 Toyota Matrix Base - - iPad 64GB - - miniDSP 2x4 HD - - PPI Art a200.2 - - SoundQubed SQ-2200.2 x 2 -
WalledSonic
Build a floor first. Then work the walls up depending on how complicated you want to make the box (in an effort to gain as much volume as possible. I really recommend building the roof of the box into the roof of your matrix. That stiffens the entire roof, and again maximizes space. my $0.02. I regret not building my box roof into the roof of my car. Not a major regret, but when I do it again one day, I will take more time and effort to maximize volume. Good luck and be sure to start a build log so we can learn something from your efforts. EDIT: Also, avoid a center slot port if possible. Think about a top port or side port so you can run one less sub with more volume. If I removed 1 of 4 subs in my box, the left to right sides would load differently. I have ~12cu ft for 4 subs; thats 3cuft each. If I was able to remove 1 sub, I could give 3 subs 4cuft, which would be nice in case I blow one or just want to run a slightly different setup. Charles Phillips
I went through your recent build log so I think I get what you're saying. Im only using 2 HDC3.118s but I've been working my way through literature in a few state university libraries and patents trying to figure out some solid equations for a series tuned 6th order. Definitely doing a top port. I'll start a build log when I collect some pictures. My hesitation with the roof is that the headliner is in perfect condition and I don't even have the floor done yet. This is my first wall of any type, and I don't know anyone locally who's done this kind of work so that limits me a bit. I'm open to learning and definitely willing to forgo beers to someone in VA. - 2009 Toyota Matrix Base - - iPad 64GB - - miniDSP 2x4 HD - - PPI Art a200.2 - - SoundQubed SQ-2200.2 x 2 -
WalledSonic
Find a headliner from a totaled car from a junk yard. You can use that and store your nice one in the attic. However, if you are serious about walling it off, then its never going to be 'stock' again. My Sonic was my first wall. Its tough tearing up a new car (I still owe $10k), but these are the decisions you gotta make when you're living the #walledlife in your daily driver.
