I upgraded my amp from my JBL GTO 700.1 to a Rockville DB16. the xfl sounds great, doesn't like to get very loud playing decaf and low 30s and anything under. I have my subsonic set to mid 20s so it isn't bottoming out. I'm ready to build an new box specifically for my xfl. The AB site has a generic slot port plan for a single 12 that just looks way too small. I used the RE box calculator ( yeah I know now its not very accurate) and have been playing with the Torre calculator trying to get an acceptable design. I have my amps set with an oscilloscope, know where my distortion starts on my HU , and my electrical is almost up to par ( gotta upgrade the 250a alt to at least a 300a asap) and am want to make this xfl give me all its got. current port is 2.5" wide and I was hoping to go 3" or better wide just for the sake of port noise when I tune lower this time. not sure it would make a difference, but it seems like this sub moves a lot of air and it needs less resistance.  Am I going to gain output with a slightly larger box @ 2k rms or am I going to reach the mechanical limits of my sub first? should I go a bit smaller than current box but with a lower tuning frequency than current? Any other suggestions would be great too...my intent is port back, sub up..currently both are back in a 98 blazer

All done by me. stereo is Pioneer avh 600ex, all stinger rca, jp23 v1.5, skar rp150.4, and hertz hpd4. 2 SHCA 6.5 8ohm, 1 SHCA 3.5", and 1 DS18 tw120pro in each door. The 3.5 mid and 3.5" tweeters are powered by the skar rp150.4, the 6.5s are powered by the hertz bridged @4 ohms. Dual runs   of 3/0 welding cable, 300a alternator, 2 Vmax AGMs up front. current sub is a AB XR 12 ( dual 2 ohm) with bottom spider cut out in 2.25 cubes at 32hz

Here's one XFL1244 on 2K (assuming you can do that) 2.25 net @ 32Hz  38 sqin of port area:

Cone displacement, good to 26Hz @ 2K, subsonic filter to 28Hz:

About 23m/s peak air velocity at 2K on 38 sqin of port area:

The above would layout as follows:

That's what I'm looking to do, never thought going that small would benefit output any but I don't have the software to measure airflow, etc. I really appreciate the box design, really wanted it 37" wide ( how wide an area I have between my wheel wells, but can use trim plates to make up the difference. The db16 has been bench tested to put out rated power ( not MY amp I mean) and birthsheet claimed right around 2100 rms @2 ohm CEA rated so I SHOULD be putting out what it says it does.

What program are you using to get the design you provided?

This is a sample design, you can use WinISD free software to produce similar excursion and vent airspeed plots, just dismiss the frequency response plot with that program for vehicle setups.

The box above is set to produce a not too peaky nice sounding setup and to reduce probability of mechanical failure of the sub.  Certainly things can be done differently according to people wishes.

IMO you should be doing a larger diameter sub with a bit more power handling, a 15" sub will comfortably fit your space say 3.5-4 net and be significantly louder while still sounding nice and not too peaky.

Lastly keep with Torres and forget the RE even if both are flawed.

So many factors went into using a 12, original plan was buy one mofo at time, ending up with 3 or 4 of em. Then realized they sucked , didn't plan on upgrading my amp ( gto 700.1), so got a xfl, then sold my jbl for an awesome price and got my db16. Still intended on a second xfl , but kinda like being the guy that's louder than everyone else with just 1 sub. So if this box design turns out good, I will save for an xfl or xr 15 and put the 12 in my wife's Yukon. Just been an upward , awkward, non directional spiral into the craziness I have now. I definantly appreciate the help. I have used winisd but kind of lost trying to use it, have bass box 6, ajvented, and about anything else I could get my hands on and Torres seemed to be the best I had. I will spend more time with winisd and try and figure it out.

Also do u have a PayPal or something ? Want to shoot u a few bucks for your time designing that box for me and the help!
