So im going to cheat on a box for my 8s until I get a second pair of them and build a custom box. im going to get this     https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevy-Silverado-99-06-Ext-Cab-Truck-Dual-10-Sub-Box-Speaker-Subwoofer-Enclosure/332768648471

and cover the manufactured speaker cutouts, cut a hole in each side on the face ( forward firing subs) and cut out a hole for a round port on each side on the face of box ( unless anyone has a better idea). says there is .95 ft3 on each side, I figure between sub displacement and port displacement I should be in the sweet spot of the vfl ( have read .7 is optimal for them). my question is how big of a port should I use and what should I tune to? I have plenty 3" pvc and some 2 1/2" pvc. id lean twords the 3 , which means I can have atleast a 10" port without putting in an elbow. haven't run this all through a port calculator yet since I don't know the subs displacement and what size port will be the best. haven't decided on an amp yet but want to put about 800-1000 on each sub, if these guys are anything like my xfl they will easily take double their rms power.

2009 Silverado 1500, 7.5" lift, 37x12.50r17s, Built Gen 4 5.3L ( 4.8l flat pistons, decked 243s, SS2 Cam, Pac 1218 springs, ported intake, 120mm TB, Long tubes, 3" duals HP tuner software tuned by me), 4l80e swapped and 4.56 gears. All done by me. stereo is Pioneer avh 600ex, all stinger rca, jp23 v1.5, skar rp150.4, and hertz hpd4. 2 SHCA 6.5 8ohm, 1 SHCA 3.5", and 1 DS18 tw120pro in each door. The 3.5 mid and 3.5" tweeters are powered by the skar rp150.4, the 6.5s are powered by the hertz bridged @4 ohms. Dual runs   of 3/0 welding cable, 300a alternator, 2 Vmax AGMs up front. current sub is a AB XR 12 ( dual 2 ohm) with bottom spider cut out in 2.25 cubes at 32hz

was playing with some numbers on a port calculator and best I can find is using a 2.5" port @ 10.25" long giving me 37hz or 2" @ 8.87" for 32hz tune. I have no idea which is a more ideal port mainly because I have no clue of the subs displacement or what I should shoot for in tuning.

Its only a "temporary" box but dont want it to sound.like garbage. An elbow wouldnt take up much and i only.guessed at vfl displacement too, once i can get that number i can get more precise with the numbers, what should i tune the box too tho?

So just a "c#?t" hair less than 17" (16.96") with 3" port is 34hz. Box has. 86ft3 after sub displacement (. 07) not sure how to really measure an elbow in a pvc port but maybe ill be close enuff for this box to sound ok. Now i have to make a decision on what amp im gonna power these little monsters with. Just got them today and man are these 8s sexy lil things! I cannot wait to hear them. Almost ready to drop them in my old 12 box ( 2.5ft3 @34hz) an let em rip on my test bench amp ( sony xplod 1000 watt, think its like 400ish watts) but its too late to fire up saws!
