Bracing The Outside Of A Wall...

Recommended Posts

Getting to work on the outside bracing on my little wall in the PT, and want to know everyones opinions on which is stronger a few 2x4"s or just another layer of MDF.

Here is the space I have to work on, I am not concerned about the front birch piece facing forward, but the actual wall of the box?

Go for square tubing instead of 2x4's.

we have used wood to brace the sides of a box and that car is doing 160 db;s with 2 18's so wood would be just fine

Sorry guys, I meant wooden 2x4"s vs 3/4" MDF sheet- another layer. No metal tubing here.

I don't think I really need much more bracing, but figure since I have some left over wood, those sides might as well get it.

2x4 > 3/4 sheet of mdf!!! honestly i would do both!!!!!! there is no suchthing as over kill in bracing when it comes to audio! unless its IN the box and hurts numbers

Have you ever had your woofers blown?

Sorry, I work in a plant that only uses metal so its the first thing I think of.... plus I get a discount. I can pick up tubing for almost the same cost of 2x4's.
