ptcary Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Not going to be a worry for me with my little system , but i am curious when they start bustin, at what db?, I guess it's different for each car, but I know that Steve has done 160 in the Hoopty and the windshield is safe, and he seems to be ok with the Tahoe, too at 158. rollin Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 lots variables. in Steves case I would guess lots of hush mat keeps the roof from flapping like a bird.also that trucks tend to be alittle tougher than your average import car.ie the eclipse with 2-18s so maybe ask about a specific car or truck, that way anyone with experience with them can answer. I do see a lot of cars and trucks out there with no sound deadening in them at all, and they flex really bad. My PT is the first car of many that I've had, that I did deadening in, 3 layers in each door and one on the rest of the car, and it does make a difference. Just curious. After the deadening was adding and my power was more then doubled it did not seem to make much of a difference due to the power change. The frequency plays a big role in how quick a windshield breaks. If the vehicle is loud enough the 35-40hz range seems to do the most damage (it will all depend on the peaks of the vehicle and if the vehicle is playing through a box alone or is walled properly). Mosts vehicles windshields don't break from the SPL alone, most of the time its the glass moving past the soft points of its seal and smacking the metal framing it sits in. pimpedout97x Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 my windshield meets my roof at nearly 90 degrees for the most part, other sedan cars, the glass like flows at the same angle into the roof, IMO those have the worst flex possible. (ie, frankie rio's lexus) Quote
