On my hood and many others is this material (Not sure of what its called)

Does it need to be their at all?

What are its properties and what does it do?

I want to take it off.

I removed a section on it awhile ago to make clearance for my Short-Ram Intake and now I want to just take all it off.

Mine is about 3/4" when I compress it against the hood! So if I take it off their is a chance of ruining the paint on the hood?

Is their any alternatives to replacing this stuff?

A few sound deadner companies make thin under hood insulation that works the same (or could be exactly the same) as hushmat or dynamat, just as thin and everything I really forgot which ones though.. I'd call Hushmat and ask them about their heat tolerances or of they know the company that makes it. It may never hurt your paint, but I've seen it happen, and I wouldn't want to take that chance.

Check out StoneSounds to see my recent builds.Or look at the Flying White Facebook Page!
