PreZidential
Well, im going to be installing it into a small car. So weight will matter. It would be optimum to have a lighter sub that doesnt sacrifice power but withsome level of decent/good sq.
deafyT
So sq subs are ment to play lows. SPL subs are ment to play mids and highs. If you get a sq sub, you need something to play mids and highs. I was originally going to get jl 12w7's because lots of people bragged about how loud it gets and the unbeatable quality it has, but with alittle internet browsing. There are other comparable subs out there. They advertise the audiopulse 12" axis as if its "the best" lowest distortion spl sub that requires the least amount of space. The axis advertises 2,500 watt rms at 44 lbs while let say... re xxx 12" advertises 2,000 watt rms at 72 lbs? It just dont add up. How can one sub weigh a great deal more but have less power than a much lighter sub. don't judge a sub by its weight. but to answer your last question, it's the bl...strength of the motor. just because a magnet is big doesn't mean it's strong. srsly, the motors on my tweeters have a stronger motor than most subs can dream about....and it's a frickin tweeter. if you want to compare subs, compare the RE XXX to the RE MX, it's the same sub/basket, just a neo motor....it's smaller, lighter and stronger. stronger bl = better qes = less box impedence rise at resonant frequency, meaning mo powa = mo deebeez. but i can't let this slide. sq subs are not meant to play lows and spl subs are not meant to play mids and highs. spl subs are meant to play loud. sq subs are meant to sound good. either way you slice it, they don't play your midbass midrange nor highs. PreZidential
Well, im talking about just subs as far as sq(as in low-no distortion), not an entire 'kit' of speakers and subs. Also, does the weight effect how it plays lows? Something light, handles alot of power(spl), has little to no distortion(sq),.....
