Torres
differences in output. if a port is too small...it could cause some port noise since it causes the air to 'squeeze' through. like pinching a straw and trying to drink out of it. Clif
general rule of thumb is 12-16 inches of port per cubic foot. so depends on how big you're making the box Is that just for 12s or dose that apply for everything. I would assume everything Quote 03 Trailblazer EXT LT In Dash Rear Flip Down Polk Audio Font & Rear Stage Hifonics Zeus 4 Chan Amp Hifonics Brutus Mono Amp 12" Rockford Fosgate Power HX2 T-Line tuned to 45hz 18"BTL T-line @31Hz (9 weeks pregnant)
Toxiccasper
just 12s , 15s would need to be bigger and same with 18s
Torres
i've been under the influence that it was generally the same for all? my 8's have 12 sq inches of port per cubic foot. Edited July 14, 2008 by ExpoSport
Clif
what would you recommend for port area for 10s 12s and 15s? Torres
as mentioned above, it depends on volume. 1 10"? or 8 10's? i read on here for SPL they got the best results from a little box with a big port. so if that's the case then you'd wanna go on the higher end of sq inches for port. of course it's not limited to 12-16 sq inches tho. that's where testing and testing and testing comes into play. but to answer your question: 8" - 12 sq inches 10" - 13 sq inches 12" - 14 sq inches 15" - 15 sq inches 18" - 16 sq inches
Toxiccasper
ya testing is the only way to get it right but these can atleast give you a ballpark to play with
Clif
so would the port area be the same if i had 1 10" or 2 10"s? is it just based on box volume? pstone11
I put as much port as possible in (within reason) ... adjust the port length from there. My old box was 16 net cubes with 300" of port which is a bit much according to the standard but kicked ass playing the lows. This new box is 20 net with 200" of port due to space constraints, should be fine also.... Depends on the setup for sure. What these guys are telling you is right on target though... good place to start. As for the last question, I like to use more port for more subs/larger boxes/bigger subs.... Port area FTW! Toxiccasper
yeah with 2 subs then you should double it with 3 you should multiply it by 3 and so on to an extent
