quakecitystudio Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 (edited) So, I decided to post one topic in which I will update whenever I have a new test tone or sweep track. I understand that people will hate or talk about my music or tones. But, do not let that keep you from evaluating on your own. People can be opinionated but don't let theirs become yours. In the mean time I have been using Audacity along with Reason and other programs in an effort to better improve my sound and test tones. My style may be different from your liking, that doesn't mean that my style is wrong. My goal is to not be like someone, but to be someone. So for those of you that want to hate, just don't. Let this be a topic for those that have an interest in what I do when comes to my sound. But, if you feel that you have to hate or show aggression then just PM me. All of these are set to be at the highest level without clipping. If you have an issue with a track or download then PM me and I will see what I can do. http://hosted.filefront.com/quakecitystudio/ What's available to Download: 1up 1down. This is a 30 second track where one channel has a sweep that starts at 100hz and drops to 0hz while the other channel does the opposite. Test Track. This track is just a steady beat with steady bass. Full range 2 minute drop. This is a full frequency range from 20,000hz down to 0hz in 2 minutes. Be careful playing this track. meade916 Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 thats cool your making music and all, but its not an opinion that sub-bass recorded in stereo with your subs going all different directions is retarded. Its a fact. LOL. keep doin your thing bro i got no problem with you though. Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! Decaf Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) well you gotta start somewhere.... "So for those of you that want to hate, just don't. It's interesting to hear a person that doesn't know how to make music, tell another person that does it on a regular basis, how to make music. Two notes of different frequencies change the wave pattern of the first and the second note into a hybrid frequency. One that is a mixture of the two, it sounds like one yet another. As far as having a little more volume. I do believe that with the right two notes you can achieve a higher recorded volume. It is like having a 35hz test tone on one channel and a 35.5hz test tone on the other channel. I've been recently experimenting with audacity and have been able to achieve a 30.4db level from any frequency. And at one point I managed to get a 38.7db level from a 35hz sine wave. All without any audio clipping. On the average, I can dial in a frequency and get 31.4 db level for any frequency sine wave. I believe it is not in the lanes because there hasn't been much experimentation into the idea of compound waves leading to a higher output. The idea of it has been tossed around. That is what I've been researching. People will use what has been proven and common place. Why, because it is only fair that everyone is able to use the same material. That's why custom made cds are not allowed in the lanes, even when those cds may have acceptable material that lead to a higher output. You have to realize that som eof those cds in the lanes are dated material, so newer discoveries are taking place. For example bass mekanik has a track that has two test tones that are really close. My goal is to be able to surpass the 40 db mark for a single test tone of any frequency dialed in recorded fashion. Why, it would be like having your volume on 2 and it being as loud as if you had it on 5. Which would also yield higher numbers in the lanes. Or at leat rule out that you might not score as well because the program you played was not recorded at an optimum level. Do you even have a system? i dont think mixing tones for a mono subwoofer setup would be that bad but you were talking about people hooking up subs in STEREO and watching the subs move at different from the left to right.........thats dumb. If its all coming thru a mono sub signal then i guess it would be less dumb. bro dont get mad because people have downloaded what you put out and they dont like it. If you keep shoving it down our throats, like were supposed to like it, then your just going to get shut down every time. also, you can record your CD at whatever level you want, your SPL is only going to be as loud as your SYSTEM lets it be, regardless of the source. If i have a cd thats recorded "40db" up and it gets louder at volume 2 that doesnt mean my system will do bigger numbers it just means ill be maxed out at a lower volume. The source material doesnt get you more power or more cone area......even if it gets you there sooner it doesnt mean "more". Because, a sound system works as a multiplier. If your recorded volume was 2 and your system multiplied by 4 then the tracks output based on your system is 8. But if your recorded volume was 8 and your system's output was still 4 then overall output is 32. It's not okay to assume that the recorded material is a constant across the board. You can have one bass cd's test tones by a popular artist that's louder than anothers. To anybody else: A person could run thier subwoofers in stereo or mono, whatever his or her preferences. There is no governing body saying you have to run it this way or that. The only difference from mono or stereo is the track being played, power to the subs being a constant. Some elements may have been recorded on one channel while others are recorded on the other to have a feel of space as if you were actually in the studio. My sound system at home, from which I make my music, nothing special but two fostex monitors and two Infinity 12" dvc woofers wired in stereo to a receiver that has a mono/stereo switch. I've played literally everything from compound sweeps to rock and roll and there hasn't been any damage yet, because I play it at low volumes. Some people do not realize that when you watch a movie there are going to be multiple low frequencies at a given time. It's the only way to achieve realism that's close to the actual sound of what the sound fx people are replicating. Only in the car audio realm is where you'll find one frequency being played. Think of te compound sweeps or test tones as the rumbling sounds of thunder. If you were to play a track that had thunder sounds on it, then you would be listening to multiple frequencies that would cause your woofer to move like crazy and the vehicle to quake as if it were in a thunder storm. For compound sweeps to wrok effectively they have to be somewhat close in range or at a frequency for a short amount of time, so that means no 40 and 80hz combination, etc. When someone talks me down, I'm going to stand my position, let them speak, and then give my opinion. All, I've been hearing are opinions, some good and some bad. But, I've been looking at the positive side of things. Decaf Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) i dont know for a fact, but im going to go out on a limb and guess that almost all artists dont record bass on their cd's at that high of a level (38.whatever) because then anything from 80hz and up will be ~25db quieter instead of ~15db it makes it harder to achieve a good sounding car audio system when one part is so over emphasised in comparison to the rest... this method would only work if you amplified/raised all frequencies otherwise the interiors wouldnt get loud enough since you have to turn up the volume less and the gain on the interior amp would have been set while the volume is higher u have some good ideas.... just need to refine them and present it in a way that doesnt make u sound so defensive an "i'll try that" or "did u know that" really goes far when ur trying to reach an audience... not "actually this statement is wrong..." thats not going to get u anywhere... especially when we all know that recording a higher level bass note and a lower volume # gives u the same output as regular level of bass and regular volume # setting 5(38.x note) +1(low volume setting) =6 and 3(20db note) +3(regular volume setting) =6, both yield the same output, one just started at a higher number to begin with so it took a lower # to reach the same output its awesome that u got the time to make music... i bet alot of us wish we could spend more time at our favorite hobby i guess this is something u gotta deal with as a music creator.... criticism comes in all forms and its ur job to take it and turn whatever advice/bashing into better music... You can have one bass cd's test tones by a popular artist that's louder than anothers. No shit. I know some CD's are louder then others. It dont mean your going to get more SPL out of the deal it just means you will reach maximum output SOONER. When your amps are out of "juice" they are out of juice......doesnt matter what the source is. Thats like saying that even though i got my system as loud as it can get i can get more power by turning the gains up on the amps. WRONG. While turning gains up seems louder, its not its just getting to max volume sooner........ To anybody else: A person could run thier subwoofers in stereo or mono, whatever his or her preferences. There is no governing body saying you have to run it this way or that. The only difference from mono or stereo is the track being played, power to the subs being a constant. well hell, you can run your mids and highs in stereo or mono.....whatever your preference. There is no governing body saying you have to run it this way or that either but we all know which way is the right way. I think its possible here you have WOOFER and SUB-WOOFER mixed up. Of course WOOFERS in a 2 way tower type of setup will be in stereo. SUB woofers should always be mono and if done right you shouldnt be able to locate the source of the SUB bass at all. It's the only way to achieve realism that's close to the actual sound of what the sound fx people are replicating. Only in the car audio realm is where you'll find one frequency being played. again i think you have woofers and SUB woofers mixed up. Also, AGAIN, multiple tones can be ran thru a subwoofer, no one said it couldnt.....happens in the "car audio realm" (that you know nothing about) all the time. If i had two subwoofers in a car though i would never EVER want them playing different frequencies at the same time. Now my woofers in the doors, YES..........midbass SHOULD be in stereo not mono. Think of te compound sweeps or test tones as the rumbling sounds of thunder. If you were to play a track that had thunder sounds on it, then you would be listening to multiple frequencies that would cause your woofer to move like crazy and the vehicle to quake as if it were in a thunder storm. see my last comment For compound sweeps to wrok effectively they have to be somewhat close in range or at a frequency for a short amount of time, so that means no 40 and 80hz combination, etc. When someone talks me down, I'm going to stand my position, let them speak, and then give my opinion. you are trying to school me on something you dont know anything about and i am telling you the way it IS. Sorry if you feel like your being talked down on. People saying they dont like your beats because they dont sound right......thats their opinion its not them talking you down. Oh and thanks for letting me speak that was nice of you. All, I've been hearing are opinions, some good and some bad. But, I've been looking at the positive side of things. actually what you are hearing from me is FACTS. Look on the positive side of things, even though your highly annoying, i havent banned you yet.
