Testing A Sub

ok heres the story im going to pick up some subs that are used (for a really good price until i get my real subs)and i dont have anything ran to test them out, i didnt tell the guy that i just said i wanted to test them before buying them he said thats fine i can let them play for as long as i want before buying. so i was going to take my dmm (snap on one) and just see what ohms they are at. that should let me know if they are good right?

That is right it shouldn't give you a reading or it will give you a funky reading if something is up with the sub

But that does not show if there is any mechanical failur or if the subs still good but about to blow

damn ok maybe ill just run my wires real fast thanks bro

Try and look at the coil and check for any burns... Push down the on the cone and make sure you don’t hear any rubbing or feel crackling when pushing down. Not to much you can do. Real test is to just have the person play them.

Ya that's the best way still hit it with DMM to make sure your not hookin blown subs to your amp

I checked the ohms on my T1 Rockfords cause they weren't scoring as good as they use to. Well they checked fine. And then they blew.... Checking ohms doesn't mean they are in good condition.
