Ok guys, I gotta get started on the 1/0 this weekend, is this what I need? Lowes, $19.99, and do you guys use the flux or not? Steves tutorial post shows no flux, but then again he is a pro at this!

Flux is cleaning agent, and it also helps with capilary action ( which is the solder sucking into the joint)

but when soldering electronics you dont need flux, as the solder that you suppose to use has rosin flux allready in it

I was wondering if using flux helps getting the solder wire to flow better when it melts, or is it just kinda a surface prep?

I used map gas burns hotter that's what king SUV recommended for me but I was also doing 2/0

map, propane or butane, it doesnt matter, the wire isnt big enough to have to worry about heat dissipation.

use whatever is readily available or the cheapest.

if you were soldering 2" copper pipe, then you can worry about proper heat dissipation, yes Im a certified pipe fiter, I have soldered more copper than the average human has even seen.
