Gearstix
Well ****. The deck I'm gunna get from bangin_exploder is a 6.5V pre-out deck. The SAE-1000D from sundown says 6V. So what are my options for a 1kW amp @ 1 ohm that will handle 6.5V pre out? Quote 2005 Blazer Build... Mach 5 SPL-12s, Audiopipe AP3000.1D.. I doubt the .5 will make that big of a difference prolly just have to keep your HU volume lower so you don't clip the subs. Hmmm. Could I turn the gain down aswell? I just don't want to go and fry something. Hifonics Txi-1008D, I think would do aswell, just how would you find out what it can take for input voltages?? I think I'll go with the Hifonics.. they produce rated, or close to it right? Quote 2005 Blazer Build... Mach 5 SPL-12s, Audiopipe AP3000.1D.. Boon
All it means is that even at the lowest gain your deck will drive the amp into clipping before you get to the maximum volume on the deck. It just means the last few volume steps on the deck will just clip the amp... you won't fry anything unless you do exactly what someone with a 1v preout headunit can do - clip the sh!t out of it for extended periods. Audioguy564
When an amplifier states it can accept up to 6vrms inputs it means that with the gain all the way down it will take 6v to drive it to clip. Having a higher voltage pre-out on a deck only means you don't turn it up as much because any voltage after 6 volts will just overload the input section of the amplifier.
