LSN2meBoom916
Thanks, I layed the first glass last night... i'll add some pix tonight... oh, also, how many layers do i need to do before i can take it out of the trunk? Id say at least 2 layers of glass before you can take it out the trunk. This way it is all sturdy and wont crumble when you take it out. Then once you have it out, id put a few more layers on it. Ive never had to glass the trunk well before, but from doing door panels, I noticed you want your mold to be stiff before you go and try movning it around, otherwise you may chance warping your part and you might not notice it til you test fit and it wont site the same as it did before. Really depends on "how you glass"....Are you starting with the woven mat, and going over it with chop mat? Are you starting with chop mat? Using it as it comes in sheets or pulling it apart? I personally lay some resin by itself 1st so the liquid can really get in all the lil cracks and while it's still wet start adding woven mat that will get fine detail like that...and keep wetting the brush with resin to really "sandwich" the glass in between 2 layers of resin....OR use chop mat that has been pulled apart. It's tougher to work with/control and you will likely need to sand it between layers to get rid of "pokers" or singe strands of glass that hardened like needles....Use a 1" or so brush to "paint" resin over the top or more to the point/more importanly TAP it in...imagine BOB ROSS, the Hippy painter guy that liked to paint trees....he would use the tip of the brush and just grab some paint, then tap it into place to make his trees/bushes/etc..you wanna do the same but with resin and make sure that as you tap tap tap you get all the air bubbles out. The most solid layer you can get will the strongest. I would do at leat 3-5 layers of chop mat b4 I try to pull it out...regardless of if u layed some woven mat too unless you used a shitlad of it..that stuff is pretty thin- which is why it grabs details so well...otherwise, if it adheres to the metal underneath. you can crack or warp the tub when you pull it...And try to work your way around the edge/perimeter if you can to free it up gradually rather than yanking on one spot and possibly cracking it. I make mine strong enough to stand on WITHOUT mdf bracing...then I add bracing. Good luck meng.
