Subsonic Filter/pull On Ks1200.1,question

i was wondering what the subsonic filter does? i think it makes it so the amp cuts out really low frequencies but im not exactly sure. if it does where is the cut off at?

next is i was wondering how much current a kicker ks1200.1 pulls. birthsheet it does 1460rms at 2ohms, which is what i got it running at, gain is hardly turned up at all along with bass boost.

at idle ill drop to 12.4 volts, when im driving it will usually doesnt drop below 13.8-.9 under peak bass.

thanks everyone

A subsonic is used to cut infrasonics and unwanted low frequencies from your mix. Setting the subsonic (or highpass, high shelving, low cut etc etc) filter at, for example, 30hz will remove frequencies below 30hz whilst leaving 30 and above uncoloured. If they list the filter at something like 20-50hz, 24db/o or 24db/octave, that means it will remove 24 decibels of sound for every octave below the filter position.

In laymans terms, from 30hz and below, no more sound. The per/octave number just determines how much is removed and when.

This shows you the frequency response vs gain, and you can see the roll-off with my crossover network.

i thought there was a way to set the subsonic filter, it seems since i got this amp that my low end bass isnt all that good or what it used to be running amps without it.

i was thinkin would it be better if i turned the gain all the way down and adjusted everything with the bass boost? it gets loud even with the gain all the way off and a little bit of bassb. right now i have very little gain and very little bass boost. and suggestions, im not using the bass nob if that means anything.

if i was you, i would set my gains with a DMM to get the appropriate voltage. then set the SSF to cut off about 5hz lower than tuning of the enclosure.

and also, i personally DO NOT use bass boost. i mean it is ok in some situations/installs, but you should use caution when using it.

THAT IS TRUE SUB PORN...got some sexy movement and a squirter spewsmiley.gif
Subs are like titties, They need to come in pairs because ones and threes are just wrong, and larger amounts will always draw a crowd, we all have our favorite sizes, but the bigger ones are more fun to watch move. :D

i know and i fully agree with you, i thought you needed an oscilliscope or however the hell you spell that to set your gain? if you can use a dmm teach me how!

i am just really supprised between this amp and my last two cadences, the gains where turned up quite a bit and also so was the bass boost. i kind of liked the sound of those two amps better, it might be the subsonic filter on the kicker or i have it set all wrong. i cannot turn it up tho, im at college and im afraid to set off sum alarms rofl, i cant be gettin in trouble the 2nd day being here. im pritty sure im the loudest person here, i looked at the dbdragracing site and there are not any comp's around here.

idk im trying to install an alarm in my car, but i dont have a drill and ive been tryin to use a screwdriver and self tapping screws to mount the damn siren lol. i tried everything and ended up beating the shit out of my car with a hammer i was so pissed. i was going to buy a $20 drill from walmart but im broke lol. i hate being 3 hours away from my garage -_-

* funny story- for my dorm i bought this activity pass, they said i could use tools and stuff so i figured wth its $15. so this morning i went and asked the guy at the counter if he had a drill. he had a really confused look on his face, he said he didnt have one and didnt think power tools hwere allowed in the dorms. he asked me what it was for and i said i had to drill a few holes in my car, he didnt say much but said no sorry dont have one. his face looked like he said wtf are you drilling holes in your car for. my room mate was laughing his ass off, he was standing behind me. i just thought it was funny.

well imma run out and mess with the monster, gotta see if it sounds different with the subsonic filter off, that is prolly why my 10-20hz sucked and didnt move hardly at all. i gotta make sure all my subs are in phase but i dont think they are cuz it should be louder and it doesnt sound right. well i got a few hours work ahead of me screwing 3 screws through metal. -_-
