Tubbing Out A Spare Tire Well.

Recommended Posts

Where do you buy that material that you put on top of the resin to harden it? I'm talking about the silver stuff you used on your build. Whats the name and where do you buy it? Did you use chop mat for that too?

I have no idea what you are talking about.

The only silver material shown is tin foil. It is used as a masking/sheild to keep resin form sticking to the inside of the spare tire well.

I don't understand the last part of your question since it pertains to the first part that makes no sense.

Good tutorial! should be a sticky! I love it when people help instead of just talk shit and never post anything useful. Thanks.

Agreed.

I was referring to the woven mat that you apply first. I missed that part when I first saw your post. I somehow skipped the part where you mention that you use the woven mat to re-enforce and then the chop mat.

Re phrasing my question(s), Where do you buy your woven mats and chop mats from, and should we expect to pay for this material?

It is cheap, you can get both at any auto parts store or even walmart. If you want some serious thick mat, a boat store, Napa paint stores, or online.

Now resin... that's a different story. Not so cheap these days...

Check out StoneSounds to see my recent builds.Or look at the Flying White Facebook Page!

This guy^^^ KNOWS.

And is correct, most autoparts stores have a fiberglass or "body work" section.

Autozone/NAPA/Kragen/Checker/Advance/pep boys/etc should all have both woven mat and "chop mat" which is the thicker stuff...I use the same "Bondo" brand mat and resin avail at Autozone as I have discount on it there.

There is much "BETTER" material out there, but I have never had any issues with what I have used forever and I will only switch when I feel the need or have someone willing to pay for the "good stuff".

I would say the MAIN difference I notice from using different brands which I have done just as an experiment is the FILLER needs to be the highest $$$ you can afford/stomach. You will have an easier time sanding it and better results generally...but I use "shit" and get by.

The packs of woven mat/chop mat are 2'x4' or 8square ft total...and they cost around $4/each after tax.

This place has marked pretty high @ $5.62...you can get them around $3.49-$4.00 range easy.

Ty.

It's there for anyone who wants it.

And I am always game to drop my 2cents on a similar project...like I see you're under some good instructions with Davids Mustang trunk knowledge...I'll be tuned in to see how that turns out. *ask before doing-saves you a lot of sh*t to "recover" from, and lots of folks here have already done it before.
