Overpowering Subs And Box Size Question

When running more than the recommended RMS in a ported box, would it be better to make the box bigger or smaller?

For example....My subs are rated 600wrms and recommended ported box size is 2.25 - 3.25 cubic feet. I will be running three subs at around 900rms each so should I make the box closer to 6.75 or 9.75 cubic feet???

Or are there other considerations I need to know?

make your box smaller when your tossing more power to them from what I know.

I know for fact that the bigger the box you put the sub in, the more efficient the sub will be with less power.

So a 18" fi btl with 2000 wrms in a 8 cubed box will be louder then the same sub with the same power in a 6 cubed box.

My subs call for 2.5 ea. I have them in 1.6 each.

My installer says thats one of the reasons they are still pounding away after the abuse I give them.

I've done over peak watts for daily pounding with bass boost and gain on max. And long burp sessions.

OK....So, I can go with the minimum volume and not be cheating myself out of db's (with enough watts)

I've got the room for it to be as big as I need....I'd just rather have it smaller for asthetic reasons.

also a good idea to tune lower than most companies recommend, especially with larger subs, 29-32hz, because its reaaaaly easy to unload if you're throwing more power at then than rated.

my subs are in a minimum reccomended size box with a very small (1.5x18x10) port, they see close to double rms for hours at a time with no problems.

Imho yes. The amp I am using now is pushing only 425 watts to each 12, two of them. and with the subs in a 1.6 instead of a 2.5 I am hitting 142.1 on a tl. that could go up with some amp and deck settings tweaked i'm sure. So for me smaller is fine.

Thats in the trunk by the way, firing forward with a slot port in the middle of a pre-fab so I don't know the tuning.

So, I've come up with close to the minimum box volume, tuned to around 29Hz with 92.5 square inch of port (I'm using the RE box calculator)

Is this enough port for 3 15's? Seems like the velocity would be pretty high.
