How Much Power Increases

chronic2001

Recommended Posts

ok so if you had a amp that was rated like this rated at 12.6V

Output POwer at 12.6V:

2 x 200W @ 4 ohms (THD < 0.006%)

2 x 400W @ 2 ohms

2 x 800W @ 1 ohm

2 x 1200W @ ½ ohm

1 x 2400W @ 1 ohm bridged

Fuse: External 400A

44" long (112 cm), 36 lbs (16.33 kg)

how many watts at 1 ohm bridged would you actually get running it at a consistent 14.8V

1-Mechman 270a alternator

1-XS Power D3400 under hood

Second Skin Damplifier Pro Deadener

Kicker & Knukoncept 1/0 wiring

Big 3 upgrade

I would estimate approximately 15% more. Although some amps scale the power very differently.

Might help if we knew what the amp is... although at 44" and a 400A fuse it sounds pretty heavy duty.

EDIT: Oh, USAmps VLX-400?

Still, probably 15-20% more power.

ya i got a red vlx-400, red usa-200, polished us 4300x, and a purple us amps optimizer and a couple of the old lanzar optidrive series

i talked to greg from us amps and he said that the vlx-400 couldn't see 15.1V or it would go into protection i still dont understand i thought class A/B was unregulated and could take like 16V with no problems

Amp class doesn't matter with regards to voltage handling... almost every single amp uses the same style of MOSFET switching power supply, which unless regulated, will take as much voltage as you like until you reach the limit of the components voltage ratings (or thermal issues overwhelm it)

In this case, it probably uses something like 16v caps so they make it protect at 15.1v...
