so subs do get stiffer at colder temps then, its not just subs almost anything made from menerals get more brittle in a colder climate than ina warmer climate its not just how loud they play but how efficent they will play it, the glue around the voice coil atached the the cone n spider will get brittle and ive seen many subs fail at that point from cold weather cause when its stiffer they turn it up louder and then wam, or cone cracks, i think it depents on what meterials the sub or speaker is made from verses what db it is to what affects will happin to em, i think when its colder the fs will go higher so the sub wont play as low as they would when there warm, hence why ppl like to "break in" subs to be louder kinda like warming up, ied just take it easy on em till they warm up tho, i think we need input from someone like rusty or sundownz or polekat who make speakers to see what there input is, ied like to see a cold sub tested to a warm sub n see what its boundrys would be

actually, its not true. temperature has no direct effect on SPL. though temperature will effect resonant frequency of an enclosure and vehicle cabin, and temperature can effect efficiencies of amplifiers and subwoofer voice coils.

But when you adjust for temp differences, you should hit the same SPL everytime.

Case in point; My peak SPL at 65 deg F and above is 153.2 @ 39 hz.

My peak SPL at 40 deg F to 50 deg F is 153.2 @ 42 hz.

Ah. Does the cold air make the woofers work harder, thus making the amps suck more voltage from the battery(ies)?

my lights dim alot more when its cold than when its hot or warm outside so i think they do get stiffer n make the amp work harder so ya, aint some products have an operating temp they need?

My stereo shut off one time (when I first had it installed) because it was cold outside (around 13F) also it was early in the morning and i started it for the first time that day also. The voltage went below 10. Nothing broke or fried just shut off and came back on. It was just tellin me to get a bigger alt and another batt

well if u look at a battery they have more cold cranking amps than regular cranking amps so that makes u assume that ur electrical pulls more current when its cold than hot so maby thats why, i always let my truck get warm befor i turn my stereo on, if it aint warm enulf for me i aint playin my stereo till my truck warms up to atleast around 60degrees somewhat

Batteries dont perform as well in cold weather. That is causing some of the adverse effects posted above.

The set up your talking about would sound great in my Tahoe. Trade you my dog for it. He has one eye but that only makes for bad depth perception so hey so what if he is running into shit, look at it this way he is easy to sneak up ninja style on. (right side only)

What about gel cell batteries? I have one under my hood, just got it not 2 months ago.

still is effected by cold weather, just not as badly as wet cells.
