MECHMAN Posted December 4, 2008 Report Share Posted December 4, 2008 DO NOT disconect the charge wire while the vehicle is running, that can damage the alternator. All you need to do is measure the battery voltage with the engine not running (should be 12-13 volts) Then start the vehicle, and measure battery voltage again. Voltage should come up to 13.8-14.8 volts. If the battery voltage doesn't increase when you start the engine, the alternator is not charging. Torres Posted December 4, 2008 Author Report Share Posted December 4, 2008 yeah i didnt disconnect it. thanks for the heads up tho i'll make sure to not do it in case i'm in a similar scenario. i replaced it with another alt that's slightly stronger than my stock alt till i get it repaired or replaced. i started it and it went down from 12.2 to 11.8 BUT i applied for a second job today so that'll help with my income for extra goodies Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
